UN Water Preparatory Meeting for 2023
On October 25th, 2022 Uplift You team attended the preparatory meeting of the United Nations Water Conference 2023. We were very delighted to witnessed representatives of 192 countries of the world participated in this conference. The proceedings of the meeting started at 10:45 AM under the chairmanship of the Deputy Secretary General of the UN in the conference room of the United Nations Auditorium No. 4. Later, heads of the governments of the Netherlands and Kazakhstan joint partners of the United Nations Water Conference met through virtual media.
Secretary of the Conference and Under Secretary of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, Desa gave a welcome speech and presented the overview themes of Interactive Dialogue Water Conference 2023. Exchange of views with Members of State on the Themes of the Interactive Dialogue was presented by the member countries of the United Nations. In addition, the representatives of the Red Cross and UNICEF and experienced opinions were given by the participants of the conference. About 400 members including NGO members from 192 countries of the United Nations participated in this conference.
Uplift You representative Md Shorif Uddin, Tharek Ahmed and Abdul Quddus (titu) attended the conference. Expert opinions were expressed about the shortage of fresh water and proper use of water in the next century. Finally, the meeting was declared closed by presenting the outstanding report of the conference through the closing speech of the president.
As result of this meeting we have committed to focus on UN SDG goals # 6 with 4 targets that we plan to achieve my mid June 2023
Goal # 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
– By 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all
– By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations
– By 2030, substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity
– Support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management
